Colorblock Lenormand

The Deck

I started learning the Lenormand card system a few months ago and when I considered myself ready to dive into reading a  Grand Tableau, found that I needed a fair amount of space to lay all the 36 cards. There’s a lot of furniture around the house that could provide a nice surface, even the floor, but for practical reasons, my designated and favorite table to read cards on is one of those individual folding tray tables, which means, my space is limited. At the time I only owned four decks. The first I made in a mini size only to test and see if I’d like the Lenormand in the first place. I became obsessed with it. I then bought Rana George’s Lenormand that had recently been published, along with the Easy Lenormand Kit to have a more traditional deck and book for reference. After playing with them for a bit, I decided to make myself another deck using photographs, to memorize the symbols and relate to them in a more familiar scenario, The Hexagonal Lenormand. But as wonderful as all four decks are, a grand tableau with any of them still wouldn’t fit on my little side table. The mini fits nicely if I do the 9-column tableau, but for the 8-column version, the bottom row only fits halfway. And if the mini doesn’t fit, the others won’t either. What can one do? Get a bigger table? Not. Create a smaller deck. Yes, please! I’m such a nerd! LOL. That’s the story though.

The Extended Version

I blame the happy squirrel!

After I received my first printed copy of the Colorblock Lenormand, I went online looking for videos of how to read the Grand Tableau, which was the main reason why I created the deck in the first place. I’ve found that I like Donna Leigh‘s straight-to-the-point tutorials, and on one of her How to Do a Lenormand Grand Tableau videos (don”t remember which one, #3 I think), she mentioned something about how some deck creators liked to add a happy squirrel card as a fun surprise to enhance a reading. This immediately triggered a memory of the time I was in Universal Studios Orlando, sitting on a ledge of sorts, waiting for my friend to finish whatever she was doing before leaving the park for the day. I will never forget how I suddenly felt something move beside me, and when I looked down, I saw the cutest squirrel (see image) coming out of a dirt hole as if to say ”hello”. It stayed there for a little while, enough for me to take a few pictures and have a chat with. That was also the first time I got to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and all these memories made me think how fun it would be to add a Wand Card to my little colorful deck. Instead of a squirrel, a magical wand. Why not? And after the wand, the rainbow appeared… why stop at two when you can have twelve?!

The Bonus Cards

I may have gone overboard with the extra cards, but thought they would be a nice addition and help expand the Lenormand language to our modern times. I mainly chose symbols that are either meaningful to me and my personal practice, or represent the tools and technology we are currently using in our daily lives. For example, the laptop and the camera lens. Both are part of our current existence, even if we don’t use them ourselves. I didn’t add a separate mobile-devices card because I thought it was too much, and we already have more than enough cards that can convey messages, conversation, and communication.

How to Use the Bonus Cards on The Grand Tableau

You can set the extra cards aside if you don’t want to use all of them on the Grand Tableau. You could select a few to play with and see where they land, as with the happy squirrel example.

Rana George has recently uploaded a video explaining how to use extra cards on a Grand Tableau reading, I highly recommend you watch it: Rana George Lenormand / Grand Tableau with The 4 Extra Cards

Sample Reading - ELEMENTS

Sample Readings

The Seasons and Elements cards can be used as focus cards, significators, or to mark a position in a reading. I’ve prepared two samples that may give you a better idea of how you can use them in your practice. You don’t necessarily need them, but I considered them to be a fun addition to this colorful deck.
